Working Together for a Greener Shopping Experience

We work hard to minimise the impact of Shopping Centre to the environment by working together with our partners, tenants, and the local community for a more sustainable future.

Eden is managed by Savills, to view Savills’ Sustainability Strategy and Policy please click here.

Accreditations and Awards

We are certified ISO 14001 for Environmental Management System. Used to manage environmental responsibilities, Performance, Energy Efficiency, and Sustainability.

In 2019, we received a Green Apple Award for environmental best practice by significant improvements in recycling and waste management.

In 2023, we received a further 2 Green Apple Awards for Carbon Reduction and Partnerships. We have also increased our Savills Sustainability standard to Silver.

In 2024, we were awarded a Green World Award for our commitment to environmental best practice. A donation was made on our behalf to GiftTrees whose tree-planting in emerging nations helps the environment and wildlife, and creates employment opportunities for local communities.

Waste

We have adopted a zero-landfill waste policy. Any general waste that cannot be recycled gets converted into energy.

Annual waste report for 23/24

Recycled waste 438.6 tonnes
General waste 364.3 tonnes

Recycled waste is made up of cardboard, glass, plastics, metals, timber, and food. Our team also collects cardboard from other businesses in the town centre and we recycle this on their behalf.

Sustainability in Action: Paving the Way for a Greener Tomorrow
Electric Vehicle Charging

In 2022, we appointed Virtus Energy to install 8 Easee chargers on level 2 of the green car park. This type of electric vehicle charger is manufactured to contribute to a sustainable future by saving the environment for 4kg of copper and plastic produced per charger.

Energy

As part of our sustainable energy plan, we are working on ongoing projects to change all lighting to LEDs. The centre is naturally ventilated, and energy usage is monitored.

We have waterless urinals in place to reduce water consumption.

Transport

We operate a green travel plan for staff, and a company cycle to work scheme.

In our 2023 travel to work survey, we identified 50% of employees use a single occupancy car, 25% walk, 20% catch a bus, and 5% cycle. 80% of employees live within 5 miles of the centre.

Customer bicycle parking can be found outside the library and Patisserie Valerie.

Our Rooftop Beehives

Many people don’t realise that bees are a crucial part of our day-to-day life. Reductions in global bee populations pose a threat to the pollination benefits of both the planet and the people.

At Eden, we’re extremely conscious of the environment and building a sustainable future. This is why we introduced four beehives to our roof, giving our local bee populations a safe place to live and work.

Eden has Green Electricity Contracts

Since October 2024, 100% of the electricity supplied to us by EDF is from renewable sources in the UK. This is backed by a certificate of origin.

The Green Guide

To celebrate all the green goodness happening throughout the centre, we have worked with our retailers to produce a digital guide complete with the green initiatives at Eden.
