A defibrillator is a device that can be used in conjunction with CPR to deliver an electric shock to a person in cardiac arrest, where the heart stops pumping blood around the body, in an attempt to restart their heart.

Jennie Lefevre and Jason Benfield from Eden, who provided the new defibrillator, met with Robin Mugridge from South Central Ambulance and Ray Cox from the Hazlemere Fere to launch the new device.

The new defibrillator is registered with a scheme provided and promoted by South Central Ambulance whereby an app, ‘Save A Life’, is available to show the locations of your nearest defibrillator within this region.

Every year in the UK there are some 60,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests (OHCA), with resuscitation being attempted in around half of these, but just one in 10 people survive to hospital discharge.

However, the chances of survival are two to three times higher with the use of a defibrillator.
